You may have noticed a new look to the blog. This was not done by choice. WordPress had this big banner having to do with an issue with my current version of PHP. Addressing it broke the theme I was using. At least The Brother got the blog back up.
Maybe it’s time to go looking for a new theme.
I believe that it is better to be free than to be not free, even when the former is dangerous and the latter safe. I believe that the finest qualities of man can flourish only in free air – that progress made under the shadow of the policeman’s club is false progress, and of no permanent value. I believe that any man who takes the liberty of another into his keeping is bound to become a tyrant, and that any man who yields up his liberty, in however slight the measure, is bound to become a slave.
I’m going to start with a book recommendation. Fall And Rise: The Story of 9/11 by Mitchell Zukoff. I had to stop the book several times to recover emotionally.
Next election will be the first where people born after 9/11 will be able to vote. I’m beginning to understand how my parents felt when they discussed Kennedy assassination or my grandparents talked about Pearl Harbor.
This is one of the songs that brought Anthrax to my attention back in the 80s.
Let’s go through last week, shall we?
We had another mass shooter. Somehow, this doofus got his hands on a weapon, even though he was rejected by NICS. This was a rare instance where the shooter acquired his weapon through a private seller. Who has subsequently been arrested for illegally selling weapons, and who will actually be prosecuted. Unlike most people charged with breaking federal firearms laws.
Wal-Mart came out and said they’re no longer going to sell handgun ammunition or “short-barreled” ammunition. Also, they don’t want people to open carry into their stores. Well, I guess that means Lucky Gunner and my local gun shops get my business.
Kroger then jumped into the corporate shaming of gun owners by asking folks not to open carry in their stores. Then Walgreens and CVS joined the show.
San Francisco decided that the NRA was a terrorist organization. They should know since the NRA has committed so many terrorist acts in San Fran. Like the SLA.
We live in interesting times. Excuse me while I go bug my elected officials.
In questions of power, let no more be heard of confidence in man, but bind him down from mischief by the chains of Constitution.
My club held it’s humorous speech competition, and this was my winning entry. Now, on to area at the end of October. I’ll post that one as well if they record it. Just to see if my performance improves.
I telework two days a week. I was talking with my coworker on our weekly call and mentioned I picked up a new fidget spinner for the home office. She asked me why I didn’t get one for the office. So, I sent her the link.
She quickly agreed that it was probably not a good idea to bring one of those to work.

Last week, the tracks had our area having a Hurricane Labor Day. Dorian kept moving east and slowing down that now we’re not even sure if we’re going to have much impact from the storm at all. Still concerned for friends and family on the east coast of Florida. The Bahamas and probably the Carolinas look like they’re going to get pasted.
I saw a friend on FB ask “Do I want to be a victim or an asshole?” Essentially, she was asking when praying for divine intervention, did she want to pray for the hurricane to hit other people so she and her family would be spared? I’m more on the if you’re going to pray, pray for those who can least bear the burden.
