Heard about this on the Assorted Calibers Podcast. Surprisingly good.

Concealed Carrier Versus Active Shooter
I came across this article on things to consider if you, as a concealed carrier decide to engage an active shooter. For me, this definitely reinforces my opinion of getting my family and friends the fuck out and only engaging if needed.
Still, even with that stance, this article explained some things that have to be considered if that active shooter does cross my path. My big takeaways were:
- Act fast and decisively
- Get close because the bad guy has a rifle and I have a pistol
- Even doing everything right, I still might get shot by the cops – accept it
There is a lot more in the article, so read the whole thing.
Friday Quote – Jury Question to Judge
This came is as the jury request in the case of Brian Aitken, who was convicted of running afoul of New Jersey gun laws. This is a prime example of why I support jury nullification.
Why did you make us aware at the start of the trial that the law allows a person to carry a weapon if the person is moving or going to the range, and during the trial both the defense and prosecution presented testimony as to whether or not the defendant was in the process of moving, and then in your charge for us to deliberate we are not permitted to take into consideration whether or not we believe the defendant was moving?
Adding To The Lexicon
I came across a tweet from Hanne Blank (@hanneblank) on Facebook – because we must cross the streams – that kicked over my giggle box. Then, it made sense. So, adding this to my writing lexicon.
Fucktangular (Adj.) – Describing a situation that was complicated and messy in multiple unpleasant and difficult ways
Watching Game of Thrones is seeing one fucktangular situation after another.
Living With Robots
The future is funny sometimes. We use Echoes in the house. Yes, I know the security issues and I’ve judged the risk acceptable at this time. What amuses me is some of the “human” failings of the robots.
Today’s example – We have three Echoes, which with our small house often means two will pick up the verbal command. This morning, my wife orders the bedroom Echo to turn the lights on. No problem. The living room Echo, because of sound changing as it bounces out of the bedroom misheard and proceeds to tell me that there are no alarms set.
The future is weird.
Metal Tuesday- Powerwolf – Fire and Forgive
We’ve had Powerwolf on before. This is the title track off their new album.
Scientology in Florida Prisons
From the article:
An organization connected to the Church of Scientology has run seminars in more than a dozen Florida correctional facilities over the past several years, public records obtained by Reason show.
For anyone not clear on the insidious nature of Scientology, I would recommend watching Going Clear. Here’s the trailer:
Friday Quote – Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
We need leaders not in love with money, but in love with justice. Not in love with publicity, but in love with humanity.
Tax the Texts!
California’s Public Utilities Commission is considering taxing text messages. People aren’t doing voice calls as much and the commission is spending a lot more for its subsidy program for telecommunications for low income people.
I’d laugh, but this is something I could see spread across the nation. The states have trillions in unfunded obligations, and they’ll be looking for any way to extract more cash from the populace.
Operation Chokepoint – Not Just Guns
We in the gun world know all about Operation Chokepoint and its impact. I didn’t think it would impact something like death metal. From one of those affected:
When the processors would run a check on me and my business it comes back as HIGH RISK and RERPUTATIONAL RISK some of the red flags come back as: Promoting hate speech, promoting rape, promoting violence and promoting hatred.
“An absolute atrocious characterization and a very convenient way of fusing music band names, titles to an actual call to arms. The slightly veiled assertion is one that marks me as one who is inciting these actions. The overlords now wish to control what you can sell and what you can purchase. Speaking with a few individuals within the banking system (underwriters) as well as other labels [I learned that] this started with Operation Choke Point from the DOJ to curtail predatory lending, which, like most [rulings] has now expanded its tentacles.”
