In case you haven’t heard, Facebook has been having a rough couple of weeks thanks to a whistleblower. Reason wonders if breaking up the company is necessary as it crumbles.

A bill in California will open up its databases on gun owners to researchers. This just begs to be abused.

CCRKBA sent out an article that according to the FBI Uniform Crime Reports armed citizens killed more bad guys than the police in 2020. Have to wonder how much of that was police pullback and the riots following the Floyd incident.

The local fish wrapper uses a crazy headline about Florida not applying for more federal funds for schools. Honestly, considering all of the strings that usually come with federal money, I’m happy when the states tell them to fuck off.

From The Firearms Blog comes an article about the British military selling off old equipment. I’m hoping the Brits will see the profit to be made and sell those surplus P226’s. I have a surplused P225 from when the Germans sold their old P6’s, and it was my first carry gun. I love the P220 series.

I think two things work against me getting a Brit surplus P226. One, I can’t see the Brits deigning to sell to civilians. Two, even if there was a bureaucrat over there who could see the profitability in selling to American citizens, with the current prices on Gunbroker, I don’t think I could afford one.

I have three quick links for everyone.

First, to the surprise of no one in the RKBA world, Reason reports that the CDC is looking at researching “gun violence” as public health This kind of bullshit “research” is what got the CDC bitch-slapped by Congress. However, even with the USSC slapping them down over the eviction moratorium, the CDC is still feeling its Wheaties. The sad thing about all of this? The CDC could help with “gun deaths” if they’d quit politicizing and help with research in preventing suicide.

Second link today comes from The Firearms Blog. FN has decided to upgrade its civilian SCAR lineup with non-reciprocating handles. There were two reasons that I didn’t seriously consider the SCAR 16 for my “non-AR AR.” One of those was the reciprocating handle. The other was the hefty price tag. At least they fixed one of those.

Lastly comes news that Hasbro has licensed out GI Joe, Transformers, and Power Rangers to Renegade Game Studios for making new role play games. According to the Polygon article, these new games will use a new Essence20 system rather than the 5E from D&D (which Hasbro owns). I’m interested, and would be more interested if I had a gaming group where I live.

Czechs Are Looking to Add RKBA

Quoting from the Volokh Conspiracy, who is quoting from PragueMorning.cz:

The Charter of Fundamental Rights and Freedoms will now contain a provision stating that “the right to defend one’s own life or the life of another person with a weapon is guaranteed under the conditions laid down by law.”

According to the submitters, the constitutional change will prevent this right from being restricted by ordinary law. It will also strengthen the position of the Czech Republic in discussing other EU regulations.

As the proud owner of a CZ rifle, I would be happy to see this happen. The people should be allowed to own the fine weapons they produce. Particularly for the same reason I purchased mine. To protect my family.

Bushmaster Is Back

I recently discovered that Bushmaster is back in business. Right now, they’re showing off their ARs. They’re teasing a redesign of the ACR. Considering the one of the reasons I went with the Bren was because the ACR wasn’t in production, I am intrigued. I’ll add it to the “want” list.

First, I heard about this on the Assorted Calibers podcast. Essentially, a gun Prohibitionist group tricked John Lott and another gun rights activist to speak to a field of three thousand empty chairs. Let’s see, you lied about (and made a fake website for) a commencement for a fake university. Yet, I’m supposed to believe that you’re telling the truth about your gun death statistics?

Next the President signed an executive order to “promote competition.” Reason has a response of yeah, not so much. Much like the original infrastructure bill, there’s a bunch of stuff in there that has no bearing and/or hurts our ability to compete.

Cuba is seeing mass protests. This could get interesting. Assuming that the Cuban government doesn’t go all Tiammenen Square on them.

And now for some lighter fare. Looks like someone is trying to reboot the Silverhawks. Considering the trend to take old cartoons and worsen the animation, I’m not hopeful. And yeah, I didn’t watch the show that much when I was a kid. That being said, I fucking loved the intro theme:

Sometimes You Come Back On Your Shield

Instead of with it. John Hurley stepped up and stopped a madman bent on killing police. Unfortunately, he was killed by responding officers who mistook him for the madman. First, let me offer my condolences to his family and friends. Mr. Hurley did a courageous thing, and I hope that offers them some comfort in their grief.

Yet, like many tragedies, this is a good incident to examine for lessons. J. KB over at Gunfreezone has a good examination of the event. I agree that Mr. Hurley should not have picked up the madman’s rifle. Also, making yourself as much a non-threat when the cops roll up is also a good lesson to take to heart.

However, you can still do everything right and end up shot by the cops. You may not know the danger is over and are still scanning for threats. They are rolling into an extreme situation. Adrenaline is pumping on all sides.

Understand that. You can do everything right and still end up dead. That’s another lesson that needs to be learned.

Judge Benitez issued a permanent injunction, but granted a temporary stay to allow the California AG to appeal (process underway). I understand the reasoning, but it would have been interesting to see if the gun companies could flood California with “now legal” rifles like they’ve done with magazines.
