In Chapter 51, Slim, Sport, and Quentin are joined by members of the U.S. Army’s Task Force 11, the American military’s anti-zombie force, to go after the minion. In DC, Mateo gets a bad feeling as the FBI SWAT begins their attack to capture the minion, Ted. When it goes sideways, Mateo joins the fight.

In Chapter 50, retreating from the zombie horde, Slim leads his teammates into an old maze on Skull Island, hoping to funnel the horde into killable bite-sizes. Except, it’s not nearly as safe as he was hoping. In DC, Mateo tells Jess that Collin is the assassin and tells her to guard Kenn and Mercedes while he hunts Collin down. Surprisingly, Tredegar might be able to help with that.

Skull Island, South Pacific, 25 July 2010, 0315 Hours Local: Countdown: 1 Year, 3 months, 6 days

Slim and his driver, Michael, bounced back into the Zombie Strike compound. Michael slid the ATV into the laager where the hunting teams were waiting. They were the last team to return. Slim smiled as he dismounted. It had been a successful operation. None of the teams were lost, and by best estimates, the teams bought Zombie Strike two or three hours. Frank Pierre, the compound’s lead engineer was putting that time to good use. Outer buildings were being torn down to build a wall surrounding the old hotel. The hard packed rubble rising into some semblance of a barrier made Slim imagine he was in a Post-apocalyptic world, like Mad Max. He wondered if he would ever be able to watch The Road Warrior again. Continue reading

In Chapter 46, Slim, Sport and some of the support team go out to fend off the zombie horde bearing down on Skull Island’s command center. In DC, Mateo meets up with M&W’s legal representative before rushing off to the hotel with Kenn, Tredegar, and the lawyer in tow. He’s finally able to get into contact with Jess and hears more bad news.

In Chapter 45, Slim is working hard to determine the extent of damage to Skull Island’s command center and figure out how long it will take to get them back on-line. Then Gunny, Skull Island’s head of security, brings even more bad news. In DC, Mateo is being questioned by the FBI. Special Agent Tredegar shows something that forces Mateo to action.
