Black Hawk Down Plus Twenty-Five

It’s been twenty-five years since the Battle Of Mogadishu. American Rangers, Delta Force operators, and members of the Nightstalkers fought the largest engagement since Vietnam against Somali militias. Nineteen servicemen lost their lives. Two of the dead would earn the Medal of Honor for their conspicuous gallantry in defending one of their own.

I Vote Guns Part Something or Other

I was really hoping Nikki Fried would be a smart Democrat and just leave the guns issue alone. Her big platform push was to come up with a sensible medical marijuana system, and that’s something Florida needs. The current system was definitely written by prohibitionists, which makes it difficult on those who need it. So, I was just hoping Fried would just focus on that platform.

Unfortunately, she isn’t. According to the tweet published in Miguel’s article, Fried is somehow going to wrest control of the concealed weapons process from the NRA. Which means she’s probably going to toss control over to Bloomberg’s suite of lobbyists.

You done fucked with my third rail. I vote guns, and I vote against those willing to take them.

Philadelphia Is Shutting Down Its Asset Forfeiture Program

And paying $3 million to the people it victimized. Apparently, Philly’s was one of the most pernicious in nature.

Philadelphia hauled in $64 million in seized property over the last decade, according to an investigation by the Philadelphia Inquirer. That’s more than Brooklyn and Los Angeles combined. Not only does Philadelphia take in more than other cities, but the average seizure is significantly more petty. A City Paper review of 100 cases from 2011 and 2012 found the median amount of cash seized by the District Attorney was only $178.

Civil asset forfeiture is one of the most egregious concepts to spring from the drug war.

Reliving a Bit of My Youth

Tonight, I’m introducing The Fiancee to one of the pivotal movies of my childhood.

One of the local theaters is doing one of those single night screenings. I warned her that I might be reciting the lines and singing along with the songs.

Different Values

The Fiancee and I were heading to our engagement picture shoot. I’m wearing new jeans that I bought at a regular (non-Big & Tall) shop.

The Fiancee: How do those jeans fit?

Me: The pockets are too small.

The Fiancee: Is that really the most important thing for guys?

Me: Itss in the top five.

The Fiancee: So what’s the most important?

Me: That my junk isn’t smooshed.

I’ll be here all week folks!
